The Dhow Sailing Route

Purpose: Follow the historic Dhow trading route from Zanzibar to Mombassa

This exciting trip will take us about four days. If you have ever been to Zanzibar or the east coast of Africa you most likely have seen a Dhow Sailing Vessel. They are one of a selected few boats that are still made today in the old traditional way. We will visit one of these Dhow makers while in Zanzibar. It is definitely a major undertaking. There are many different sizes of the Dhow Sailing Vessel; the large ones are used for commercial purposes transporting goods from Zanzibar to the mainland and back. We will be traveling on one of these large Dhows as we follow the historic trading route from Zanzibar to Mombassa.

Upon your arrival a couple of days before we set sail, we will have dinner with our Captain. In addition to enjoying some fantastic local food, our Captain will inform us of some of the goods we will be transporting. If you wish to try your luck at sea trading, you will know what goods to purchase in Zanzibar that have a saleable value in Mombassa.

Pricing depends on the number of travelers and the size of the boat, Contact us for a price quote.
