Path of the Masai

When the sun rose, we walked in the footsteps of ancient warriors, tracking the wild by the scent on the wind and the prints through the grass. The excitement of experiencing nature by being part of it could not be contained by our group. We gave away our position to a nearby gazelle, who bounced forth suddenly and disappeared into the bush. At night, under canvas tents we listened to the African lullaby echoing through the savannah. When the sun rose, we walked in the Path of the Masai once more.

Day 5 & 6 Lake Eyasi Cultural Experience
Head deep into the bush and the home of the Tanzania bushmen. Travel off-road for several hours to get to local villages that are not on the regular tour route. The Barbaigs and the Hadzas are two very small "forgotten" tribes traced back over 800 years. The Wahadzabe are the only bushmen in East Africa. They speak the click language and still hunt with bows and arrows.

Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp is situated on the shores of Lake Eyasi Across this seasonal soda lake, the Alipi escarpment wall rises 2,000 feet up into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area providing a stunning backdrop. There will be time to explore the trails around the camp, mountain bike or if water levels allow - canoe along the shore. While it is possible to see wildlife, this area is truly special for its' interactions with the local tribes. The waDatoga are a pastoral group like the Masai, and it is always interesting to visit their boma/village. If possible we always try to arrange time with the hunter-gatherers that speak the language of the first human inhabitants of the continent.
